Boy in Djenne

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Philip Greenberg

This photo was taken on January 3, 2012 in Djenne, Mali just weeks before the Tuareg led rebellion in the north pitched the country into chaos, led to a coup d'état and subsequent unofficial splitting of the country in two. Besides the simple beauty of the moment, my lasting refelections have been focused on how effortlessly the boy was able to just stop and take a pause from his chores.

Location: Djenne, Mali
