Le Mouton Salé du Mont Saint-Michel

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by James Shaw

The georgeous and mysterious island of Mont St. Michel rises from the flat and barren landscape like something out of a fairy tale. It's Hogwarts on a mudflat. Across the landscape graze thousands of sheep, known as a local delicacy for their salty meat, a result from eating the grass which has been flooded with salt water. The layers of clouds and flock of birds add a sense of beauty to this surreal landscape.

Location: Mont St. Michel, Normandy, France
