Lake of The Clouds - Porcupine Mountains Wilderness

Category: Outdoor Scenes

Photo and caption by Sandy Richardson

Nestled below rock ledges that rise 1000 feet above Lake Superior, the Lake of The Clouds lives up to it's name as it almost touches the sky. The jewel of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Lake of The Clouds is surrounded by over 40,000 acres of state designated wilderness of virgin forest primevel, untouched by the woodsman's axe. Here wildlife such as wolves, eagles, loons, pine marten, fishers and black bear roam freely. The park is open year round to visitors and is a midwest backpackers destination.

Location: Ontonagon, Michigan - Upper Peninsula
