Breathing Earth

Category: Sense of Place

The nasty smell in the field raises the question where it comes from? The groundwater leaks about 1000 m down in the earth and then raises up as a hot steam. The steam also includes hydrogen sulphide which at first seemed to have a smell like a rotten egg but after two weeks in Iceland I started to like it because almost every time you feel it there you know some breathtaking view is somewhere near.

Location: Namafjall, Iceland
