Kombai women and child

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Alexandra Radu

Two women from the Kombai tribe walk down the bridge that links the village of Bomakia to the old MAF landing site on river Mappi, South Papua. The MAF doesn't land there anymore, the village has a new concrete landing strip, the first brick for the building a copper mining site in within the next three years. The child's grandfather was born in a treehouse in the middle of the jungle, when the village of Bomakia didn't even exist.

Location: South Papua, Indonesia
