Atop a water buffalo, watching the sun set on Thaungthaman Lake

Searching for a peaceful view of the setting sun, we happened upon a small Burmese family who lived along Thaungthaman Lake, outside of Mandalay. The young boys in the family had just shepherded home a flock of ducks to pen them up for the night, while their mother walked a few, lumbering water buffalo to their evening's resting spot. The family's youngest child was delighted to see her old friends and playmates, the buffalo, return for the evening. She hung from their horns, kissed their noses, and climbed up their backs — all amid the warm, fading sunlight.

Location: Amarapura, Mandalay Region, Burma (Myanmar)
