An arriero maneuvers his horse on a ridge in the cordillera de los Andes south of Santiago, Chile. Riding a sturdy Chilean horse to 7,000 feet elevation gives a good sense of the arid mountain conditions and the dense smog trapped in the basin around Santiago, the starting point for this ride.
