Chefchaouen Woman

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Kelsey Ferguson

A woman in Chefchaouen, Morocco sits with her head turned from the camera. Despite brightly colored walls and markets that wind through the city, the pace of life in this northern Moroccan town barely exceeds a crawl. My walk revealed only a few half-concealed women in doorways, salesmen in market shops, and a solitude that only this shade of blue can suggest. I was lucky to photograph this scene at all, as most Moroccan women shy away from all cameras.

Location: Chefchaouen, Morocco
