Treacherous road to school
Category: Travel Portraits
Photo and caption by Vera Hill (Neverkevich)
This photograph depicts two Zanskari girls on a 4-day trek along a frozen river, which they do a couple of times a year to go to school and thne back to reunite with their families. Average tempretures along the river are around -20C, and there are many perils along the way, such as fragile ice on the river and avalanches. Travellers sleep in caves along the way.
