The photograph was taken at a site for immersing the ashes of the dead after performing the Hindu cremation rituals. The serene figure of a local resident playing a single-string instrument near the "ghaat" (a river bank with steps to reach the waters). The picture tries to capture the sombre mood which is central to the place and shows the figure immersed in playing the instrument, which is accentuated by his pose.
