Village Boy

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Jennifer Neczypor

A little boy from the custom village of Taluarere, miles away from cell phone service, stores, running water, and what passes for civilization on the remote island of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu. The child lives in a bamboo hut made from traditional materials and spends his days running free through the jungle, content and dirty and naked save for the custom cord tied around his waist to bring good luck and protection from evil spirits. He looks terrified in this photograph, as he has never seen a camera or a white person before and is not quite sure what to make of either one!

Location: Taluarere Village, Espiritu Santo Island, Vanuatu, South Pacific
