Solitude for a Chickadee

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by marah rohovit

Near the Utah-Arizona border, on old highway 91, is a forest of Joshua trees in the desert. A dry and brutal environment and yet, this little Chickadee perched atop of a dead Joshua tree, singing. It is so small and fragile, I was quite taken by surprise to see it there. The distant vistas in soft pastel colors are natural in this photo and offer a soft contrast to the harshness of the desert, a compliment to the Chickadee's song.

Location: Southwest of St.Geroge, Utah near the Utah/Arizona border. USA
