Coleo Carnage

Category: Sense of Place

While living in Bogota, Colombia we decided to travel down the mountain one weekend to catch the Horopo dancing competition in Villavicencio. The dancing was amazing, but the action at the Coleo was something else. The cowboys, or llaneros, chase the bull down the strip and have to tip the beast over by pulling its tail. The trick is to get the bull to roll over and get back up and if you get it to roll over twice - you get the bonus points. Its a rough game - but hey, thats life in Colombia.

Location: Villavicencio, Meta, Colombia
