Out to play

Category: Sense of Place

This image is shot in Kampung Pulo in East Jakarta. This village is unique with their various colors and plenty and maze like alleyways. This village is also famous for their annual flooding that rampage the lower part of the village that are built on the same plains with one of the major river that flow past Jakarta city (Ciliwung). I waited for a perfect moment on this dark alley when a child went out of his home and ran through the alley to meet his friends to play. The jovial gesture of the child shows the total contrast to the actual harsh environment these villagers lived in.

Location: Kampung Pulo, Jakarta Timur, Indonesia
