A Hidden Storm

Category: Sense of Place

I assumed smoke more or less lazily billowed out of our campfire, up the slot canyon cove walls, and dissipated into the brilliant Goblin Valley night sky above us. That is until a friend sliced through the rising smoke with an astronomy laser and revealed a hidden storm of tiny chaotic hurricanes and turbulent weather systems. The amazing patterns that had always been right there above the campfire suddenly revealed themselves in all their raw nature. We were captivated for hours by the fleeting CT scan universe-slices that hovered above our fire like holograms.

Location: Goblin Valley, UT
