Behind the purdah. The hidden face of women in rural India. This image was taken in one of the remote hamlets in rural Gujarat in December 2011. The light was harsh and the gaudy colors of the locals shone brightly in the sun. This women edged up to me, curious to look at my camera and my Western clothes, through her veil. The globalization and westernization of the Indian economy and society in the big metropolises has yet to change the lives and traditions of rural India and women in general. I found the moment poignant enough to press the shutter.
