Monk at Dongak Chhyoling Monastery

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Linda Hoernke

A Buddhist Monk makes candle wicks for the butter lamps at the Dongak Chhyoling Monastery, located at the Swayambhunath Temple near Kathmandu. Also known as "The Monkey Temple," it is listed as a World Heritage Site. I love the low lit ambiance and the red colors of the interior walls and of the Monks outfit. It seemed to all come together in a spiritual and yet mystical way.

Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
