"Viswakarma"

Category: Sense of Place

After 7 weeks of recording sound for the Canadian documentary film "The World Before Her" in India, I spent two days in Ajanta and Ellora (in the state of Maharashtra) exploring the cave temples which were dug out of the mountain side. This is Cave 10: Viswakarma (also know as the Carpenter's Cave) which is the only chaitya (chapel) cave in Ellora. I was alone in the cave and the faint sound of traffic nearby reverberating off the walls and ceiling almost sounded like Buddhist chanting. With my eyes closed it was a magical moment giving me a true sense of place.

Location: Ellora, Maharashtra, India
