The best of nature at Great Falls

Category: Sense of Place

Sometimes, even nature competes with humans for a good photograph. Its beauty comes out best when it is ferocious. This photograph was taken at Great Falls Park, VA, the day following hurricane Sandy hit the east coast from Florida to Boston. The Potomac river, 10 feet above its usual height roaring across the length of the park, through the jagged stones offered a breathtaking view of the beauty and the ferociousness of the river.

Location: Great Falls National Park, McLean, VA
