Robbed of chances?

There is a saying on the island of Boracay, I do not know if it's true. But the story goes like this; once there was a tribe who lived on the island paradise of Boracay, Philippines. Then someone saw the touristic potential of the small island. Eternal sunshine, white beaches, palms, corals and..them. The inhabitants did not know money, boundless greed, or the price of their possession. Piece by piece, resort by resort. And now it's all lost. These days, the story goes, they are nothing but beggars on their own land. How did it ever come to this?

Location: Boracay, Philippines
