Tender Bird

Category: Spontaneous Moments

This Cattle Egret, so elegant and graceful on land, became gawky and awkward, clearly out of it's element when it joined my husband and I on our sailboat 75 miles offshore west of Martinique. The winds were blowing at 19 knots from the East that day. I think this bird was just riding the wind and got carried away far from home. It stayed with us on our tender until we saw St. Vincent in the distance, where it flew it off towards land.

Location: Caribbean Sea, Offshore west of Martinique
