Long Island City Hawk

Category: Spontaneous Moments

Photo and caption by Chris Austad

I was jogging one morning here on the waterfront of Long Island City (LIC). Gantry Plaza State Park is a riverside promenade along the East River for the residential community. LIC is known for it's amazing views of midtown Manhattan. As I was jogging by, I noticed this beautiful hawk sitting atop the railing. I slowed down, pulled out my iPhone and took a picture. I didn't want to disturb this majestic looking bird, but I had to capture this moment. I was able to slowly get closer and closer until I was arms reach away. It was a rare moment in NYC where you connect with mother nature.

Location: Long Island City, Queens. NYC. Manhattan Views. East River. Gantry Plaza
