Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Lorraine Minns

Every year thousands of Haitians will board these non seaworthy boats in an attempt to find a better way of life in the Bahamas and the United States and escape the hardships of Haiti. A boat this size will have as many as a hundred people crammed into every space possible. The tragedy is so many lives are loss trying to make it to the promised land and reminders such as this one are scattered throughout the shallow waters of the Bahamas.

Location: South Side, Exuma, Bahamas
