The Ringneck lady - historically proud and unique

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by celeste van rooyen

The ringneck lady was shot in Inle Lake in Myanmar - the story about the heavy rings - physical evidence of years of wearing it and the traditional story behind will mark this culture forever. Apparently years ago the tribe did ths to their women to make sure other tribes wont abduct them due to the lack of beauty - it deforms your back, and now these humans cannot stay straight without them.

Location: Myanmar Inle Lake
