Survival of the Strongest
Category: Outdoor Scenes
Photo and caption by Graham McGeorge
The image depicts a parent Great White Egret and two chicks at feeding time. The parent will fly off to catch numerous small fish. They swallow their catch and return to the nest. At this point, it gets very violent, and a case of "the strongest will survive" starts to show. Each chick will stab its beak at the parent trying to pry apart the beak that holds the bounty.Once the strongest of the two has gained this position, the parent will regurgitate the recently caught catch, comprised of around twenty small fish, and make the deposit into their chicks mouth.
