Charles is the silverback leader of the Umubano family of mountain gorillas on Visoke mountain, Rwanda. He had separated himself from the rest of the family and was resting when we arrived with our tour group. Eventually he sat up and we got twenty minutes of just him and our cameras. Finally, just after this shot, he let his displeasure known of our presence. He uttered a warning and then mounted a bluff charge that took him between my son and I who were only about four feet apart. Thrilling to have him go by us at speed. We estimated him to weigh around 450-480 lbs.
