Buddha's Birthday Celebration

Every year on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, the town of Kangding in China's western Sichuan province holds its largest annual festival to commemorate the birthday of the Buddha, Sakyamuni. Of the many Buddhist temples that can seen dotting the mountainside, the Nanwu temple is by far the largest and most ornately decorated. On this sacred day, it is here that both Tibetan and Chinese monks gather to perform ceremonial dances for both pilgrim and tourist onlookers.
