Top of the Falls

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Melissa McLain

Exploring Havasu Canyon lead to many surprises and adventures. This photo captures my favorite spot at the top of Havasu Falls. The bright blue of the water highlights the orange red of the canyon walls. The blue sky, speckled with puffy white clouds adds just the right amount of depth. It was difficult for me to believe the calmness I experienced at the top of this waterfall, right before the water plunges 80 feet as the water continues its journey to the mighty greenish gray Colorado River, in the infamous Grand Canyon.

Location: Havasu Falls, Arizona
