Monks Playing Hackeysack

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Daniel Byers

In the Lo Manthang monastery of Upper Mustang, Nepal, two young monks play makeshift hackeysack with a bundle of strings. Bordering Tibet, entry into Upper Mustang was forbidden until only recently, and the Dalai Lama has called it "one of the few places in the Himalayan region that has been able to retain its traditional Tibetan culture unmolested".

Location: Lo Manthang, Nepal
