Close Encounter with Leopard

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Cathi Robbins

This female leopard had just killed an 80 pound impala when she heard Hyenas in the distance. She immediately drug the 80 pound impala into the tree. Within minutes she heard the hyenas yipping close by. She is loudly warning away all scavengers and predators in this shot, with a truly frightening sound. I was about 15 feet from the tree, when I took this photo of this magnificent creature.

Location: Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, South Africa
