Sewing Machine Matriarch
Category: Travel Portraits
Photo and caption by Vicki Santello
The matriarch of this family proudly explained to me that her sewing machine was 40 years old and had changed the lives of her family and now her grandchildren. The entire village benefited from her commerce even allowing them to get electricity. It was shipped by dugout canoe from Nauta.
Location: Upper Amazon River Basin, Peru.
