A powerful laser is launched out of one of the giant astronomical telescopes of the ESO Paranal Observatory in Chile. An overwhelming sight, a mix of nature and hi-tech. The laser is used to measure the turbulence of the atmosphere which can then be corrected by specialized adaptive optics to produce extremely sharp images of the night sky.
