The National Elk Refuge outside of Jackson, Wyoming is host to thousands of elk that migrate out of the high plateau that is Yellowstone National Park, each winter. This low wetlands has been the winter home for these elk since before man ever discovered this wild country. The Elk Refuge has over 10 teams of Percheron sleigh horses to allow visitors an opportunity to get close to the wild elk herds. This photo, shows one member of a team of horses resting back at the visitors’ area, awaiting a new set of tourists to take out.
