On the other side of New Orleans lies Lapalco Boulevard, a long and winding road through horse pastures, James Dean-like gas stations and convenience stores, vultures circling for roadkill, and finally emerging back into the familiar Walgreens and CVS stores. Until then, Lapalco Boulevard is a rural alleyway, perhaps a portal of sorts, into a past when stores and gas stations were unique and owned by individuals, and nature stood quietly by the side of the road.
