Buddhist Monastery at Sunset

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Ryan Friese

After two full days of trekking into the jungle, I came upon a remote Buddhist monastery that would serve as my accommodation for the night. After locating my sleeping quarters and unloading my gear, I climbed a small hill above the monastery to watch the sunset. As the sun started to sink towards the horizon, the oblique rays of light softened and powdered the scenery with a beautiful orange hue.

Location: A remote location east of Kalaw, Myanmar
