The Dawn of Evolution

Category: Outdoor Scenes

Photo and caption by Chaitanya Deshpande

This was taken in India late February, when the Winter starts giving way to Spring. The mornings are still chilly though and monkeys rise early to catch the warmth of the sun at dawn before it becomes too hot. An alpha male, the leader of the pack, sitting at the highest spot he could find made a striking scene as the sun rose behind him. He seemed serene, almost contemplative; I was conscious of the fact that in India, the monkey-god, Hanuman, is worshipped and that added more meaning to this powerful moment at dawn.

Location: Baroda, Gujarat, India
