Arctic desert beauty

Venturing into the Svalbard Archipelago is like crossing some unexplained frontier of the mind. Jagged natural ramparts, serpentine fjords and vast ice sheets stretch as far as the horizon. To the ends of the earth or so it seems. Depending on the capricious whims of the extreme Arctic climate, the thick clouds reveal remotely the fragmented landscape as if they were concealing some kind of mystery – whether it’s deep yellow sunshine illuminating the ice. This is my favourite place on earth.
Location: Svalbard Archipelago, Spitsbergen Island, Sassen Fjord
