The Sangoma

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Devin Frobb

The Sangoma, a divine healer, is one of the cornerstones of Zulu society. In addition to healing all forms of illness, they also use their traditional knowledge and techniques to deal with financial, spiritual, and material problems. In South Africa, it is estimated that traditional healers outnumber Western-trained doctors by almost 8 to 1.

Location: Valley of 1000 Hills, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
