The lighting of the Butter Lamp represents the Illumination of Wisdom or enlightenment according to Buddhist tradition. The Lamps are lit every morning by the Buddhist Monks of the Swayambhunath Temple to help focus the mind & aid in meditation. The Temple, also known as the Monkey temple due to the number of Holy monkeys living there, sits on a hill in the Kathmandu Valley.

Location: Swayambhunath Temple, Kathmandu, Nepal
