Train Travel in Tanzania

Category: Sense of Place

Riding the train from Mwanza to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) is a 1229km ordeal not for the faint-hearted, undertaken by very few tourists. It can take up to 60 hours whilst temperatures in the sleeper cabins hit over 50 degrees Celsius. There are no fans, air conditioning or showers. Getting out at the villages and enjoying the sights and smells of the locals is a true delight in these conditions.

Location: Somewhere between Tabora and Dodoma, Tanzania
