The snow had dusted the ground in the few days leading up to the coldest day of the winter. Reaching below -15C, this was the morning of the hoar frost, and everything was covered in a thick layer of crystallized ice. I discovered this ancient oak tree amongst the freezing dawn mists, and it struck me how the grand structure was almost like a crystal citadel, perhaps the home of an ice queen and an army of snow fairies.
