Photo and caption by Athena Tan

Thaipusam is an annual Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Hindu calendar. In this procession, Hindu devotees seeking blessings, fulfilling vows and offering thanks by performing various rituals Head shaving is one of the most popular rituals. Devotees would shave their heads – to fulfil vows and as a symbol of humility and penance. Unlike other kids who mostly are crying during hair shaving. This little boy just remain expressionless through out the process which makes me curious wonder what is he thinking or he resign himself to fate?

Location: Batu Cave, Thaipusam
