The Shepherd of Lahaul and Spiti

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Ju-Hui Chen

Traveling as volunteers with Engineering Ministries International (EMI) to help design a school in the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh, we shared the bumpy dusty roads with shepherds, their flocks of sheep and goats in the Himalayan Lahaul and Spiti Valleys. Just as I was wondering how life would be like as a shepherd in such remote and stark lands, I turned around and looked out of the back of our van. There I understood what it's like.

Location: Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India
