Kumortuli Widow

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Amartya Mukherjee

The potters colony is where the famous religious idols are created. The earth collected from the nearby river is moulded into the forms of various gods and godesses and appropriate colours are applied. The traditional white dress of the Hindu widow was a contrast to the riot of colours in this old little alley in the potters colony in North Calcutta.

Location: Kolkata, East, India
