Venice At Sunrise

Category: Sense of Place

As much as the city of Venice is famed for its stunning beauty and uniqueness, it is also notorious for the hordes of tourists and vendors who are constantly all around. That night, I decided to set my alarm for 5am so I could reach the Pizza in time for sunrise, and I had hoped that there would be no one around. And indeed there was hardly a soul, save for a few stray partygoers who were just drunkenly heading back to their hotels. For the tiny effort it took to crawl out of bed, the amazing sense of tranquillity for that hour I spent there was something I never thought I'd ever experience.

Location: Piazza San Marco, Venice
