Gambia Village Elder
Category: Travel Portraits
Photo and caption by Tom Warburton
As with my other entries this portrait was shot in a rural village in The Gambia in April 2013. I was visiting the village to see a project which was providing solar lights to the residents to replace their reliance on candles. The villagers were so pleased with the lights in their village that they put on a traditional Gambian cerebration and dance called a Kumpo. Whilst the Kumpo was going on I took many portraits of the men, women and children of the village. This one is of one of the village elders who was organising the Kumpo".
