The incandescent crater of Santiaguito, Guatemala, lights the volcano's gas plume and provides a fiery counterpoint to the glow of the moon. This minute-long exposure was captured from 500 meters below the active lava dome during the installation of geophysical instruments as part of an international scientific expedition.
