Livestock Market

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Esther Almagro

On Sunday, at eight o'clock, the Livestock Market of Kashgar is full of uyghur herders and thousands of animals, cows, sheep, donkeys and horses. Animals are tied in lines and interested buyers begin to dicker with the sellers. After they reach a deal it is sealed with a strong handshake and hug. Buyers then stuff their sheep in the back of a taxi or truck and lurch away. In photography, a Uyghur herder has bought three sheep and takes them to his truck.

Location: Kashgar, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China
