Great Geyser at 3 am

Category: Spontaneous Moments

Photo and caption by Alyson Hansen

The Great Geyser in Yellowstone NP only erupts every 16-18 hours. On a whim one night, I decided to go to the geyser to photograph the surrounding areas, not expecting it to erupt (it can be kind of erratic). After about 20 minutes of photographing in the area, I heard the tell tale noise of a geyser in the process of going off. I repositioned my tripod and went to town photographing the 140 foot spray. Photographed with a Canon 5D Mark II, EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II @ f/2.8 and 4/5s ISO 1600

Location: Yellowstone National Park, USA
