Photo and caption by Chaitanya Deshpande

As I was walking in the old part of the historic town of Aurangabad, named after the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb (it the capital of India for a brief period in the latter part of the 17th century), I came across many scenes that would not be out of place a hundred years ago. This barber shop and the house above it struck me for what it represented - it's almost 2 different pictures in one and i was lucky to be present when the client attended a phone call on his mobile and the boy and the barber stared into the distance - The contrast of old & new and of colours & hope, defines India.

Location: Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India
